Chicago in October 2002
My first ever trip to the USA took place in January 2002, when I spent almost a month staying with a friend in Kansas. It was a lovely trip; everything was new to me - even a trip to Walmart seemed exciting! It was also the start of my very frequent work trips to the USA, not all of which are on this website. In October 2002, I found myself back in the mid-west, working in Chicago - having been given 2 days notice that I had to go there.
Chicago is a lovely city, and the trip was notable as the Chicago marathon finish line was almost right outside my hotel. However, I didn't know the event was happening, and after emerging from the hotel, I discovered I had missed the winners - including the world record by Paul Radcliffe that still stands as of 2013! Apart from working, I had the chance to walk around downtown, and visit the Planetarium, Field museum, Navy Pier, and the Aquarium. This is the very last time I used an old fashioned film camera (these photos are all scanned in); from 2003 onwards, I moved to digital and never looked back.
